Why You Should Vote Pro-Union!

A Message from President Sandy Pope

The election for President of the US and Mayor of NYC are coming up next year. It is critical that we elect people that have a proven record of supporting working people and unions. We have lost too much in the Bush and Bloomberg years, and we can’t continue to have the country’s policies dictated by corporate America.

The economic situation for working people in this country is very bad and getting worse. Health costs are rising fast, pensions are in trouble, gas prices are skyrocketing and most of us have to go into deep debt to send our kids to college. Meanwhile CEOs on Wall Street and drug companies make billions of dollars in salaries a year!

Local 805’s members must do our part – success will mean a much better chance of getting policies that help working people including affordable health care, housing and college tuition. Having universal health care paid partly through taxes will lower costs that we have to bargain over, leaving more money for pay checks and retirement. If we have a President and Mayor who are pro-union, we will have an easier time organizing new companies and leveling the playing field with the competition.

• Get educated on the issues,
• Volunteer through the union or in your community to get out the vote
• Don’t forget to vote on election day

Local 805 will be very active supporting candidates who are sincere supporters of working people. Let us know if you are interested in being on a committee to work on this over the next year.
